Tiny and Mighty - Viking Mini Tank Bag Review

When I bought my motorcycle almost 8 years ago, the thought, "oh this tank is oddly shaped and has a cowl - I will need to find a tank bag to fit" did not occur to me. So when I tried to transfer my magnetic tank bag that I had for my old bike and there was no way to secure it, I just accepted that I would bungee everything to my back seat when necessary, wear a fanny pack, and tuck things into my pockets.

Fast forward to today, our club was given an opportunity to review the Viking Mini Tank Bag. I was worried that it would not go on securely on my bike - ya know, awkward shape and plastic cowl and all. I was pleasantly surprised.

Form Factor

The Mini Tank Bag is svelt with a low profile, a touch friendly clear pocket for even the largest of cell phones with an outlet for your wire headphone cord. The main pocket is large enough to fit a sandwich container and some snacks if you choose to pack your own lunch on the go. I love that it is made out of high ballistic nylon. It definitely feels sturdy and will weather the elements. I just love the overall style. It's sporty and the right size for my Kawi.

Installation

I will admit, since I wasn't solely relying on the magnets and needed to strap this bag down on my tank, I downloaded the instructions (below) to make sure I was doing it right. Remember, I haven't used a tank bag in almost a decade, lol.

Experience

First thing I tested was just how "friendly" the clear pocket was. I have a glass protector over my phone and even inside the pocket, my screen registered my touch just fine. AWESOME! I can finally see and not just hear my GPS when I travel too!

Riding around with the tank bag on felt very secure. I didn't have any issues with it. Zipping the pockets open and shut with my Viking gloves on (separate review to follow) was fairly easy. I wasn't frantically messing with my bag while at stop lights. It was easy open and shut and zipper tabs are big enough.

Thoughts

The Mini Tank Bag delivers a lot of value. It's convenient, well made, and stylish. It looks great on both a sport bike and on cruisers. While I avoided tank bags for the longest, especially because of the way my bike is, I am so glad I gave the Mini Tank Bag a try.
