![]() Today, Vixens arrived bright and early at the Australian Embassy in San Francisco to show support to our fellow riders out in Australia who have been under great scrutiny and discrimination by the laws in place. Although the overall turnout could have been better, we heard back from our friends from down under stating that our efforts were felt and appreciated! I'm not versed in Australian law, but some of the concerns that were brought to our attention included stories of people in MCs being blackballed from their professions just for being in a motorcycle club or even a supporter of one! For instance, if you're a carpenter and it was found that you are a MC member, your Carpenter License could be revoked! While I understand that Queensland Parliament has well intentions of cracking down on biker gang crime, not all motorcyclists are gang members. And motorcycle clubs aren't gangs! Here's an interesting article from BBC News about their understanding of "motorcycle gangs" and their plans to "destroy" them. The reality is, similar laws like the ones in Australia could be passed here in the United States! Restrictions on flying our colors by making us wear construction vests for supposed "visibility on the road", limiting the number of motorcyclists riding together in a pack to three, and many more are being considered. We must educate ourselves and know our rights, and then fight for them! We'll continue to fight for our rights for all motorcyclists. Oh, and when I say fight, we mean peaceful gatherings and silent protests, much like our show of solidarity at the State Capital in Sacramento. I know some of you immediately think 'Sons of Anarchy' style just because we're MCs. hahaha!
